As the last post was random and wonderful, I'll continue in that vein. Only a little less random, and a little more wonderful (if you're me, and as you aren't, you might just count this as babbling).
Basically here it is. I've been hanging out with this guy, who has just without a doubt established that he is spectacular. The curious thing is the nature of the manner in which this has been established, because this pretty much would only seem this awesome if you were me or my twin. We were out for a walk on sunday, trying to find my placement school and measure the approximate amount of time it takes to walk there from our 'hood so that I'd be ready for starting monday, when we passed the edinburgh playhouse (note: this means we went the wrong way. But this is not the important bit at the moment). Now, on the front of the Playhouse is an enormous banner proclaiming something about chitty chitty bang bang. The boy exclaimed, so I had to confess my dearly held wish to see it, and how I had been attempting to coerce my friend into going when I realized that he hadn't seen the movie and I really couldn't countenance forcing someone who hadn't seen the movie into going. The boy said abstractly that we should go, and we talked about it for a bit. It eventually was forgotten, but not before I got a vague promise of our going before the run ended in a few weeks. I was making dinner for him last night (I owed him, for helping me with some homework last week) and a commercial for the show came on tv. He said something about it ending soon, and one of us reiterated that we should go. I then dropped the embarrassing secret of my being on my THIRD copy of the film (wore the first one through as a kid, bought another vhs, was given the anniversary edition on my 21st birthday). So yeah. I got a text today saying he'd call me after school 'cause he was gonna book tickets. Which was silly, because it's easier for me to just pick some up on my way home, but we're going NEXT WEEK. I'm seriously WAY too excited.
Also, you all now probably think that: a) I am crazy b) Edinburgh is gross
I will qualify the first with the statement "of course, you idiot" and the second with "no, that was an extraordinary day! Today I only saw ONE black eye, and it was in school." Maybe I'll bring my camera on my walk to school tomorrow. Or even just my mobile. I will document it and then you will all be hella-jealous. So far this week is pretty brilliant, even when you take into account that two teachers are now sick, which amounts to 3 of my 5 classes, which means that I am now teaching 3 classes alone and without all that much preparation. But I love it. The kids listen better after being forced to, for a couple days, with no classroom teacher around. And I think it's going pretty well, for all that I've been repeatedly told that the kids at this school don't deal very well with change.,
- a perfectly coiled piece of dog poo - 6 black eyes (on 6 separate people, all varying degrees of bruisey-ness) - a really really chubby kid effortlessly vaulting a railing that separated the 2 directions of traffic on a busy road - the ugliest cat I have ever had the good luck of coming across. Possibly the ugliest cat anywhere, period. - a used condom in the street. But not just any used condom. This one was purple and pink TIE-DYE. No joke.,
So. I have 2 papers to write today, and an interview for Outdoor Ed. at 1. As I've pretty much established to myself that I am unlikely to get in, I've stopped worrying a little. I'm still going crazy about the papers (because I just can't freaking write them) but I'm okay about the other, temporarily. That said, if anybody has anything to say/and ideas on the maltese falcon (even what year we read it would help) could you get back to me asap? Aaaaargh. I have no idea what I'm doing. Seriously absolutely none. It is not a good place to be in, just now. You'd think a teacher training course would have some form of organization to it, but it's freaking barely restrained chaos. Which is no good, as I'm chaotic enough without the additional help.,
So it's an absolutely beautiful day. Which is really too bad, because I'm pretty sure I'mma spend most of it inside working. However... just to qualify... views from my window:
Yeah. Anyway, I have to do as much homework as possible today, to try and get it done. It's due friday, and I didn't do anything this past weekend because it was my birthday and I didn't want to. Instead I spent saturday faffing about, then sunday went PADDLING. And it was a good paddle, so that made everything better.
So. So far haven't gotten much done, but did do a fair amount of work yesterday. Pretty shameful amount, actually, but enough that I'm not in a panic. AND I got a hug, etc, so I feel much better about the whole situation.
In general terms, I need to stop drinking so much tea. The caffeine is so marvelous, but so sketch.,
Hi. So, I've got a limited about of time until class starts up again (5 hours of english seminar today, ouch) and I've decided to write a little.
So. Got back from that last road trip, then went down to England for Christmas with Jane's family. Met up with her in Sheffield, went to a show, met some nice people (one in particular, but that's not going to be gone into). Then we were off to spend some time with her family and a 20 lb. turkey (ahh!) which was alright as they didn't hate me too much. Then the 27th we went up to Lancaster, and I left on the 28th. I'll maybe describe in more details later. Anyway, after this, I cleaned my room, and Jane came up the 30th. We were set for a wild Hogmanay party on new year's eve, but the weather disagreed, but we somehow managed to get in a climb of Arthur's seat before the weather went to shit, and then made our way downtown after the street party was canceled to make our own party. I had a good time, anyway. Weaving through the streets in a chain so's not to lose people in the crowds was definitely a memorable experience. The next day, our backup activity - Dogmanay - was also canceled due to weather, so we made our way to the museum. Which was actually pretty awesome. I was a spaceman! Somehow, among this, we managed to watch a ton of Torchwood (with which I am addicted) and then we went our separate ways. While Jane went home, I went to Chamonix to see the family (my pictures are up on flickr and facebook, and my dad's are sneaking about somewhere) and brought along my friend Anna, and we had a good few days of sun and snow. Also got to see a bit of Annecy and Geneva, which was nice. Then, back to Edinburgh and school. Had a guest for a couple days (the aforementioned person I had met at Jane's) who has now moved to the States. School is killing me slowly. I have a todo list that covers my entire hand. Application for next year is being worked on, and job search has begun.
Anyway, I know that doesn't really give you guys much insight, but it gets you mostly caught up, anyway.
