In a move completely typical of me, I'm saying "Down with homework! I'm gonna drive around Scotland for the next three days!"
Today: Inverness, Loch Ness (by lunch if we* know what's good for us), Fort William/Ben Nevis, then down to Oban to sleep.
Tomorrow: Mull, and a day-long guided walk. We are soooo cool.
Wednesday: Loch Lomond and the Trossachs park. More walking about, but guided only by the sense of our own accomplishments (and some pretty detailed walking maps)

Then back to Edi on thursday, for some FABULOUS wrapping of gifts for the fam. Also maybe to get something for the boys. The pluralization may sound funny there, but I swear it's actually totally sensical if you're in my family. Or Cherry's. Ask her. I have to get SOMETHING for the substitute brother. Apparently him and Rob are going to be going through some kind of separation anxiety when I take Rob away for a week.

:D

Wheeeee.

* for clarification. We is me and my friend Anna who also Canadian and therefore somewhere up there on the awesome scale.

Last week before break... going mad.
Monday, December 11, 2006
Well, this past weekend was a lovely break, and now I'm buckling down (for a couple days at least). I've been feeling a little off, shaky and dizzy, and I think it's to do with what I've been eating, so I'm going to try and crack down and be healthy. Starting today. Because last night would have been a bad start. I was hoping it was just nerves because all my assessment stuff is due this week, but if it had been that then I would have felt better going kayaking on sunday, and I didn't at all. In fact I even skipped out on the last rapid, which is the fun one. But there was a camera out and I just couldn't bring myself to run it.
Anyway I'm in a bit of a state, as you can probably tell. But I just finished reading the book I was reading on friday, so now I'm out of novels and won't get any more until the weekend, so that should help. Help with the CRACKDOWN ON OVERDUE WORK which today is going to be. Because shit. Someone is going to kill me when I hand in my lesson unit over a month late. I don't know if I was off my head or what for the past month, but you'd think I would have realized this a bit sooner. That isn't to say that I didn't get an extension, or that I would have had time to finish it unless I'd REALLY pushed myself over the line (I spent six weeks exhausted as it is!) but I don't know, I probably should have just made that push for a week and finished the GD thing. Because as it is it's done, lovely, but not typed in the proper format. So tonight I will make it into the proper format. And at least I'll be able to contribute in terms of having taught the whole thing. If possible in one night, I'm going to write up two versions: the one I taught and the one I planned. Because that way she can see the reflective changes I made over time and there might at least be some purpose to my having handed it in late. I don't know.

Other than that, I'm being my normal spacey self. Watched Rudolph last night with Krista, then most of another movie, which after putting on I realized I had seen before, but that was alright. Made a pom pom while we watched it, for a hat Krista had knitted. I would like to know how to knit a hat. Should be going to see Happy Feet this week with my first year buddy, 'tho not entirely sure when. I'm also going to look into seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the playhouse. Because oh man I love my Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as everyone knows far too well.

Alright, well I miss you all my darlings, and in case I forget/don't speak to some of you otherwise (I will search you out, vim, but I seem to keep missing you) I hope you all have a lovely holiday.

And now I am going to do some last minute fiddling with the shadow study presentation topic I am meant to be giving a 5 minute summary of in three-quarters of an hour. I have 9 pages of notes and very little concrete information. And while I will have some assessment questionnaires coming to me in the mail next week, they are of little use to me now. And as it is my summary is something like "I'm doing my shadow study on teaching and learning styles (as perceived by students and otherwise) and how they coincide and are represented in the classroom. I makes some sense to me, but god I wish whose teaching and learning styles I was basing this on. I think they're... modal and those suggested by some dude in the 80s, but if I say that in class I think she might slaughter me.

I am COLD.
Man.
Sitting next to the window in an old library was not the most brilliant of my ideas. But that is where the sockets are.

Almost over.
Friday, December 01, 2006
So my second (and last, for this placement) crit is today, which means that in my most challenging class, periods 7 and 8 on a friday, one of the tutor's from college is going to be sitting in the back judging me.
Also, she's going to be looking through my PDP, which is a giant binder with everything I do in it.
And it's currently really incomplete.

I was going to stay up all night working on it, but I came to a conclusion. My first crit was the 20th, which is a little less than two weeks ago. Which means I have only had one weekend since then. I am going to tell her that, point of fact, I wasn't feeling very well last weekend, and the time I generally spent keeping my PDP up to date, recopying lesson plans and the like didn't go as far as it generally does. Also, in my seeing her at the end of a week, I'm short a few lesson plans which will be added later.
So basically what this means is that this weekend (saturday, anyway) I am going to be doing a shitload of catchup work, but that for today I'm probably going to get away with being a little bit underprepared.

And now I'm going to write up my lesson plan for this afternoon, by hand, keeping in mind that the only classes I'm in today aren't going to be taught by me. Which means I can basically sit in the back amending this while I take notes on strategies being used by the teachers.
I have to have something to show the classroom teacher when I get in, because he wanted to confer yesterday, and I really could use the input.
So... fingers crossed. Once I'm through this, I'm good.
